A significant security incident occurred during the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, following a bomb threat received via email by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
The concerning email was discovered in the official inbox of CAB and was sent from an unidentified source.
CAB President Addresses the Threat
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the situation, stating that an investigation is underway and all necessary safety measures have been implemented.
"The email was identified from an unknown source in CAB's official email during the match. The police are currently looking into the issue, and security at Eden Gardens has been heightened," Ganguly remarked.
Context of the Threat Amid National Security Concerns
This threat emerges amidst increased national security worries following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. In response, India initiated 'Operation Sindoor'.
Details of Operation Sindoor
On Wednesday, as part of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces successfully targeted nine terrorist locations using precision-guided munitions. Four of these sites were located in Pakistan, specifically in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya, while five were situated in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
This operation was a collaborative effort involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, with mobilized troops and military resources. Reports indicate that all nine targets were effectively neutralized. The selected locations aimed to strike at senior leaders of terrorist organizations Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), known for orchestrating and funding terrorist activities in India.
These precision strikes represent India's most significant military action inside undisputed Pakistani territory since the 1971 war, marking a notable escalation in New Delhi's military operations across the border in over fifty years.
